With Summer knocking on our door here in Australia you can imagine how excited I was when Harry’s Ice Cream approached me to test some of their new products and photograph them in all their deliciousness so I could host a giveaway here on the blog.

Of course much taste testing ensued at our house to see which flavour was the favourite and with three flavours to chose from everyone was in ice cream heaven!

Harry’s three flavours are Sticky Date Pudding, Raspberry Cheesecake and Pasisonfruit Pavlova!  So which flavour  was the favourite in our house – well it was split –  Mr A, Sofia and Indi loved the Sticky Date Pudding, Sienna was all for the Rasperry Cheesecake and I was in heaven eating the Pavlova flavour- it even had meringue pieces throughout it!

All are available in bright retro packaging at Woolies and IGA stores across Australia – definitely worth a try this summer!

Good morning everyone.  Monday Favourite time here on the blog and today we are meeting Kathryn Rizk from All Things Cake and Small in Sydney.  Kathryn and Jenny specialise in delicious cakes, cupcakes, cake pops and dessert tables and they have joined me today to let us know a little about their business.

Here is what Kathryn told me about her cake journey:-

Kathryn tells me that just under two years ago together with her friend Jenny (who is my business partner) started this business after their husbands realised how much they loved baking and decorating.

Over the years they have created so many different cakes but their favourite to create are children’s cakes and christening cakes.

Of all their cake flavours, the most popular would have to be chocolate mud, but their personal favourite is raspberry vanilla. Sounds delicious.

Welcome back for a new week and another Monday Favourite.  Today we are meeting Carol Brewer from Carolyn’s Cakery in Boronia Victoria.  Carol lets us in on how she got started in the Cake business and what her favourite cakes are to create.

When did I find a passion for creating beautiful cakes?

About 6 years ago I casually mentioned to my daughter that I would love to have the ability to design and decorate a cake – that it would be a wonderful way to make a living.  It was she who pushed me and talked me into attending some classes.  So I thought I’d give it a go for one term and see how I liked it and I haven’t looked back.  I have developed a real passion for all things cake and love every aspect, from designing right through to delivering of the final product.  There are so many techniques to learn and new ones popping up all the time – it’s exciting!

Tell us a little about your business?

When I first started out, I was mainly making cakes for family and friends but word slowly got around and the orders started to filter in.  My business, Carolyn’s Cakery, is a home-based business and is now going from strength to strength.

I make all kinds of cakes – birthday, engagement, special occasion and novelty but I have to say that my favorite cakes to make are wedding cakes.  There is something so special and satisfying about making a cake for such an important event in someone’s life.

What are you most popular cake flavours?

The most popular cake flavours I have made are White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Red Velvet, Raspberry Swirl and Lemon.  All cake flavours are listed on my website along with a range of buttercreams and of course, ganache.  My cakes are made with only the freshest of ingredients, good quality chocolate and fresh fruits.

Welcome back for another Monday – I am excited to show off the amazing cookies I have on the blog today as they are by one of my all time favourite cookie bakers – Noo from Dessert Menu Please in Melbourne.  I am thrilled to say that I have even had the pleasure of enjoying Noo’s cookies a number of times this year as I had her make the fantastic cookies for Sofia’s Pantone Art Party (see them here) as well as some cookies for an easter shoot I was doing (see these cuties here).

Noo’s talent for creating the most exceptional cookies is second to none and she will post them to you anywhere in Australia.  Mine arrived safe and sound with plenty of time before the event and they tasted fresh and beautiful.  So here is what Noo had to tell us about her cookie baking business.  PS.  She also makes amazing cakes!

When did you find a passion for cookie making?

I love baking. I always bake cakes, tarts, macarons, etc. for my friends and family on special occasions like Birthday or Christmas. But my passion for hand-decorated cookies actually comes from the failure on my first trial. My first batch (mid of 2009) came out terrible. The colours bleeded on each other. The lines were not straight. I couldn’t even pipe the initial properly. I consider myself self-taught baker, who is quite lucky that I always got everything right at the first trial but these easy looking decorated cookies made me question what is so hard about them that I didn’t get them right straightaway. So I tried again and again and again.

Tell us a little bit more about your business, how long have you had it and how did it get started?

I keeps on making cookies until the point that I wanted to turn everything I saw around me into cookies. One day, my friends told me about North Melbourne Market, where they wanted to sell their stuff. They were nice enough to let me share the table with them. I had lots of compliments about the cookies on the Market day. That’s when Dessert Menu, Please starts and it’s been almost 4 years now but I still consider myself a home baker.

Do you have a favourite cookie you have ever baked?

It is kind of hard to pick one that I like most. I would say anything that requires constructing. However, if I have to pick one, I pick the mini Cupcake Stand Cookie. It is actually my first original 3-dimensional cookie and I made that for my sister’s birthday.
