You know that feeling when you have something in your house that you can’t stop looking at and you just need to capture and share.  Well these tulips that I have sitting on my kitchen bench are exactly that.

I picked them up at one of my favourite local florists last week and they have given me so much pleasure ever since.  It is amazing how something so small can make your day so much brighter!  Each day they change with the light in my house and the amount they open.

The florist also gave me a great tip on how to make them last longer – add ice to the bottom of the jar as they love to be cold all the time!

Here is how they looked on Friday

And how they look now on Tuesday.

Hope these photos have brightened your day.

Naked Cakes with pretty pretty flowers on top certainly do make my heart sing so when Gillian from Crumbs of Comfort Cake Design sent me this image of her recent work I knew it had to feature in my Monday Favourite post.

I asked Gillian to answer some questions about her passions for baking so you could find out a little more about this lovely lady who I have had the pleasure of getting to know via my business. Here is what she told me:-

“I have been passionate about baking since I was toddling.  Some of My fondest memories are of helping my nanna and grandma in their tiny kitchens prepare cakes, pastries and sweet treats.  I was thirteen when my beloved nana passed away and took it upon myself to make the mince pies that christmas. I loved watching people devour my baked delights. I love the fact fôod can evoke so many emotions.

My daughter was diagnosed with anaphylaxis to peanuts at 16 months.  Unable to find a suitable cake for her  second birthday really was the catalyst.  I have celiac disease it was at that time near impossible to find gluten and nut free cake.  After spending a couple of years working hard developing allergen aware baked goods, I became fully registered with a food business licence and opened crumbs of comfort 2 1/2 years ago.

As I knew first hand the lack of choice with gluten free cakes, I was determined to make all flavours available in GF.  The most popular GF flavours are the white chocolate and vanilla bean and the caramel kiss.  The most popular GF and dairy free is the chocolate confetti cake .

Gillian has shared with us in the past some wonderful gluten free recipes and has a few more to come over the coming weeks.  Please do follow along with Gillian via her facebook page here or her website here.

A bit of a family update today as it has been a while since the girls have appeared on the blog!  We have had a magic few weeks here in Sydney with the weather – autumn truly is a gorgeous time in this part of the world.  While the temperatures are now starting to drop and the evening fires are on the days are beautiful and clear.

On Anzac Day a few weeks ago we took the girls for a ride on the Manly ferry for an afternoon out!  The perfect way to see our most stunning harbour in all it’s glory.

On our journey back from the city we had added entertainment with one of the local bands returning from the Anzac Day March in the city – we had bagpipes and drums all while the amazing full moon appeared in the sky!

Here are some photos of the our day trip!

Happy Monday! I do hope you all had a lovely Mothers Day with your loved ones! I felt very spoilt by my gorgeous girls who did a wonderful job of looking after me while Mr A is away for work!

Today I have some stunning cakes and desserts to feature by one of my favourite Cake Designers – Debbi from Studio Cake in Melbourne.  Debbi tells me she has been baking since she was 10 years old, recreating family desserts and enjoying the reactions as people tasted that first bite.  Her passion for baking and creating unique, designer cakes grew from there and she spent over 8 years working in commercial bakeries, learning from inspirational and talented pastry chefs.

Debbi had been commissioned “with love” by many friends and family to bake their special event cakes and desserts.  It was after the birth of her 3rd child (Debbi now has 4 children), that she decided to expand her hobby into a business and retire from the corporate world.

Studio Cake is a home based business operating since June 2011 and operates from an approved registered kitchen.  Debbi’s dream is to build a multipurpose studio and hope to realise this dream in the not too distant future.

The most popular flavour you ask – marble mud cake layered with decedent dark chocolate ganache.  It is always well received by both the young and old.   There is always an extra layer or so of cake to cover “a second serve” request, as once advised by one of Debbi’s lovely clients.

If you would to see more of Debbi’s work and look at her obsession with all things sweet you can visit her stunning website here or facebook page here.
