I was looking back through some photos earlier in the week and realised that while I showed some photos of Sienna the week of her 10th Birthday back in August, I actually never showed any of the photos from her party.

This year we celebrated her birthday with a small slumber party with her 3 closest friends.   The girls arrived mid afternoon for some “girl time” which included afternoon tea with adorable themed treats – cookies, choc coated oreos and some mini chocolate bars – all made by Donna from Sweet Table .  We then headed out for an early dinner at a local restaurant and home for cake and movie watching.  The yummy bumble bee cake was made by Anna from The Floury Baker.

The next morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of smoothies, hot chocolate, banana bread, pancakes and eggs.

As the girls arrived they each received a calico tote bag with their Essentials Sleepover Kit inside.  These sweet bags were created by Nicole from Penny Lane Studio and inside I included pyjamas, a cute eye mask and some nail polish – all items the girls got to take home as their favour bag.

We had a wonderful wonderful celebration – Sienna has the most polite and lovely friends who made the party so much fun.  As is all the rage with 10 year olds they put together a fantastic Video Star clip which I have attached at the bottom of this post!  Another simple party with a few special details to tie things together!  Bit of a motto for life really!

It is always a good mail day when the magazine you create content for arrives on your doorstep and today was one of those days!
The latest edition of Sweet Magazine – Issue 4 :: Let’s Hear it for the Boys! is now out in newsagents or available via the Sweet Magazine Website.

My contribution to this edition was a fun story I put together after I interviewed Li-Ann from Sack Me.  A lot of you know Li-Ann via her gorgeous graphic design and printable stationery business Ham n Pea Paperie (she designed the fabulous Pantone Party Stationery for Sofia’s party last year).

Li-Ann has branched out and created a beautiful kids bed linen range – SACK ME.  After I spoke with Li-Ann about her new venture I think invited 4 talented sweet makers to create treats based around the designs of the new Sack Me range.

To see the full article including the interview, grab a copy of issue 4.  In the meantime here are a few cute pictures of the sweet treats I got to photograph for the article plus some shots of the new linen range!  Let me know your favourite!

I have been busy baking and making for the kids lately and one of our favourites this week is a great banana smoothie and these delicious butternut biscuits.

Smoothies are a fantastic drink to serve at parties as they are so good for you and they can be made in a variety of flavours.

These butternut biscuits are also great on your party table as they are sugar free, wheat free, yeast free and diary free – no sugar high crazy kids after these two healthy options!

One ingredient that both of these yummy treats have is Vanilla extract!  Vanilla is such a wonderful natural sweetener and this one by Pink Pantry Vanilla is my favourite.  It is sugar free and gluten free and adds the perfect hint of sweetness to your drinks and baked items.

Today Sunny from Pink Pantry is hosting a give-away for Sweet Style readers.  The pack includes
50ml pure vanilla extract
30g pure vanilla powder
6 pack organic vanilla pods

We have two packs to giveaway and all you need to do is make sure you like Pink Pantry Vanilla and Sweet Style on Facebook and leave a comment here to tell us your favourite item to add vanilla to.

The winner will be drawn on Sunday evening and announced via our Facebook Page.

Best of luck everyone!

It is recipe day today and once again I am teaming up with Gillian from Crumbs of Comfort Cake Design with this weeks yummo recipe.  What are the kids two favourite things – yes jelly and cookies – combined! Who would have thought!

These cookies are super quick and fun to do with the kids.  This recipe is very forgiving and can handle being overworked by small hands.  The cookies do spread whilst baking so allow plenty of room on the baking sheet.

Have Fun!

Jelly Crystal Cookies

200 g butter
110g sugar
2 eggs
180 g gluten free plain flour
2 teaspoons gf baking powder
4  x packets of 85 g jelly crystals

Preheat oven to 160 degrees C.

Cream the butter,  and sugar together in a mixer.
Add eggs and beat well.
Add the sifted flour and baking powder and mix until well combined.

Divide mixture evenly into four balls.  Add a packet of jelly crystals to each ball and mix thoroughly.  Add food colouring to intensify colour if desired.

Place in teaspoonful sizes on a oven tray.  They do spread so allow room between cookies. Flatten slightly with a fork.
Bake for approximately 10-12 minutes.  Allow to cool on baking tray.

Notes: regular or gf plain flour can be used
For dairy free, replace butter with dairy free spread of your choice.
