After our incredible week in New York it was time to pick up our hire car and head further north on a road trip.  For the US section of our road trip our itinerary took us to all the great spots along the Atlantic coast:-

Hamptons – 1 night
Providence – 1 night
Cape Cod – 2 nights
Boston – 3 nights
Portland – 2 nights

The Hamptons area has long been on my bucket list with its beautiful houses and quaint villages.  We were disappointed that on our one day here that we struck rain meaning that we couldn’t really get out and walk along the beautiful beaches and see some of the amazing architecture a little better.  We did take a drive all the way to the Montauk lighthouse and had dinner in a fabulous lobster shack.  The beautiful towns along the Long Island Peninsula were so pretty and I would have liked a day or two more just to hang out and visit a little more – great excuse for another visit!

After our night in Southhampton and a little more driving around the area the next morning we headed towards Orient where we boarded a ferry across to New London on the Connecticut coast.  From here it was a quick drive to Providence, Rhode Island for our next night.

Newport Rhode Island was our next stop where we visited the incredible mansions built by the wealthy families in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s – they were truly amazing to visit and definitely worth stopping to see if you are ever in this area.  After looking through some of the mansions we headed to our next destination of South Yarmouth in Cape Cod.

The Cape Cod area is another beautiful part of the East coast filled with lovely little villages and wonderful beaches.  It is also famous as the summer home of the Kennedy Family is located here.  We spent a days visiting local beaches, discovering lovely little towns and finding lighthouses.

From Cape Cod we then headed to the big city of Boston.  There was lots of history to be discovered in this great city which was fascinating.  On day one we took a tour of Harvard University and in the evening we went to Fenmore Park to see the Boston Red Sox play the Toronto Blue Jays – a highlight of the trip to visit this iconic stadium and see a real game of Baseball. Day two was spent in the city where we met up with a friend who gave us a great walking tour, showing us all the historic places that Boston is so famous for.

Our last stop in the US before heading back to Canada was Portland in the state of Maine.  A very sleepy little town on the coast with more fabulous lighthouses to check out and plenty of lobster shacks for dinner!

Here are some photo highlights from our 9 nights in this very picturesque and historic part of the USA.
