Welcome back after another weekend!  We have a busy week here at Sweet Style getting all the last minute christmas orders out the door – thanks to everyone who is organised and getting in early!  We will be closing up for Christmas in the middle of next week so if you are after anything for your Christmas celebrations it would be great if you could order this week.

Today we are meeting Joanne from Simple Ingredients in Sydney.  Joanne’s cakes are simply stunning so I am thrilled she is joining us on the blog.  Here is what Joanne told me about her business:-

How long ago did you find your passion for creating beautiful cakes

Few years ago, I have graduated with a combined degree in Bachelors of Commerce and Arts, and instead of following a linear path to the corporate world, I have decided to follow my childhood dream and passion for pastry and sugar art. I began my career as pasty chef by completing Diplome de Patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu and working at various patisseries in Sydney. I have also then moved on to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, serving contemporary restaurant-style desserts, high teas and event-catering. I enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes for family and friends on my days-off work or just read recipes/food magazines, or try out new restaurants/patisseries/cafes.

Tell us about your business – How long have you had it and what types of cakes do you love to make.

The inspiration for starting my own cake business, Simple Ingredients, came to me after I found that it would be the right combination for what I love – beautiful cakes and pastry, creative designs and beautiful flowers, make someone’s day special! Specialising in contemporary and modern elegance, I make a range of desserts, from beautiful cake designs and miniature cakes, cookies and cupcakes to delectable pastries and indulging mini treats. I really enjoy creating cakes with personalised design to reflect individual’s’ characters and elements for someone’s special day. My personal favourite is something cute, elegant, soft, with beautiful flowers.

What is the most popular flavour of cake from your customers.

The popular flavour of cakes I have are Caramel Mud, Chocolate and Cherry, Vanilla and Rose, Green Tea, Orange and Almond, and Lemon Poppy Seeds. My personal favourite though is the Earl Grey Tea flavour

It is time to announce the winner of this weeks great giveaway with thanks to Milla Cordial.

We have had some wonderful suggestions for Aussie bush and fruit ingredients for their next flavour of cordial – we are really blessed to live in a amazing country that has so much to offer in the way of interesting and wholesome flavours.

Today’s winner will receive this great etched Mason drinks dispenser as well as both flavours of Milla Cordial and a pack of fun stripe straws.

One other thing I am always asked about is what to do with the left over cordial that sometimes is left in the bottom of the dispenser once your guests have left for the day!

The perfect solution is to freeze it!  Just tip it into ice cube moulds and freeze so that next time you are after a refreshing drink you just pop a few cubes in some ice cold water or some lemonade to give it a hint of that delicious cordial flavour!

And so to our winner

Congratulations to Charlie Lees

Here is Charlie’s comment:-
I would host a party just to use that gorgeous dispenser and to try those delicious looking cordials.
Oh and my Aussie bush flower flavour suggestion is – sweet tasting Banksia and a dash of honey.
OR sweet Wombat Berry (you can use the lavender purple flowers as a design on the bottle)

Charlie please drop me an email so we can get your goodies posted out to you.

Also one final note about a fantastic one day sale we are having in the online store today!
All cake stands and footed bowls have been reduced!  This is for one day only so order now for Christmas deliveries!

I am excited to show you today’s Monday Favourite as these gorgeous cakes are by a lovely customer of mine who I have gotten to know over the years when she comes to pick up her Sweet Style goodies.  Liv fell in love with the party industry and has decided to take the leap into the cake industry!

After showing me some of her beautiful creations I am sure you will all agree she is a natural so today I introduce to you jack + hunter by Olivia Munn.

Here is what Liv has to tell me about her new business.

I have only started decorating cakes in the last 12 months. My interest started after I had my two boys and a desire to be able to make them ‘cool’ cakes for their birthdays and other occasions. Friends and relatives started asking me to make cakes for them, and it has literally snow-balled from there.

My business, jack+hunter, is still technically only a ‘hobby’. I initially created a Facebook page to display my handmade (sewn) baby/kids goods, but now use it to also promote my cakes. I don’t really have a preference for the type of cakes I prefer to make, although I do like a good challenge. My favourite cake to date would have to be the one I created for my brother and sister-in-laws wedding – just love how the cake turned out and the navy/orange colour combination.

By far the most popular flavour of cake is white chocolate mud cake!
